For the Love of Books!
I arrived in the USA in March 2017. Within a month I had gotten an internship with Bookstr. Inc. Bookstr is a social media company based around a love of everything literature. They have a popular website as well as over 1 million followers on Facebook & Twitter. As an avid reader myself, I fit in well with my new position as a Video Production Intern.
My work consisted of assisting the Video production manager as well as the social media manager. I created videos for the social media channels, a few are linked below. Most were considered “Meme videos” but at the same time, I got to use my animation skills as well as my video editing skills. I became very familiar with the Adobe suite in this role as well as the procedures of content creation. I created moving lower thirds for videos as well as gathering content for videos. My content was well received by Bookstr’s audience, gaining thousands of views on their platforms as well as generating hundreds of comments.
I also assisted in the weekly Facebook live streams Bookstr did with authors. I was tasked with turning the back sitting room of the office into a makeshift green screen studio. Moving furniture, setting up the green screen, positioning the seating, putting microphones on the host and guest, and setting up the DSLR camera as well as the streaming station. During the stream, I monitored the stream via software and also monitored the audio mixer that controlled the output of the Lapel microphones on the guest and host. If the stream crashed, and it did!, I was responsible for finding a solution…quickly to get the stream back live.
I got to meet some up-and-coming authors as well as some well-known names through these interviews. I learned about the interviewing process, camera operation as well as the hardware and software used to make livestreaming high-quality and professional for the viewer.
